The psykter was a pot for cooling wine. Most were about 30 cm in height. The psykter which contained the wine was put into the krater which held the chilled water, or the psykter which contained the chilled water was put into the krater which held the wine. The name "psykter" was drived from "psyxein" that means "to cool" in Greek.
